House Passes Huelskamp-Sponsored ObamaCare Repeal
(WASHINGTON) – On Wednesday afternoon, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to repeal entirely the President's health care law. H.R. 6079, Repeal of Obamacare Act, passed by a margin of 244-185. The vote took place less than two weeks after the Supreme Court of the United States ruled on the constitutionality of the 2010 law. Congressman Tim Huelskamp, who was not in the U.S. House of Representatives when the law was passed by Congress and signed by the President, issued the following statement explaining his support for the bill, which he cosponsored.
"Today's vote is another step toward restoring the liberties Americans lost with ObamaCare, but the job will not be finished until ObamaCare is off the books once and for all, and then replaced with a patient-centered alternative. ObamaCare threatens quality of care, limits choices in health care, undermines religious liberty, and jeopardizes patient confidentiality; Americans deserve better."
"The list of reasons to oppose ObamaCare was long when the last Congress considered it, yet they still passed it. Now, the list is longer than ever. Despite promises otherwise, many Americans who like their current coverage are learning that they will not be able to keep it. Despite promises of not funding abortion, President Obama and Secretary Sebelius are asking millions of Americans to compromise their consciences and pay for abortions anyway. And, despite claims that ObamaCare is not a tax, the Supreme Court has ruled otherwise and the law still imposes 21 new taxes on American families and business. To make matters worse, Medicare is on the brink of collapse, yet ObamaCare raids $500 billion from it, relying on empowering 15 unelected and unaccountable bureaucrats to decide when and where to cut our seniors' care."
Wednesday's vote was the second full repeal vote taken by the U.S. House; the first repeal was HR 2, and it passed in January 2011. The Senate failed to repeal ObamaCare in February 2011 when it considered repeal as an amendment to a Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization bill. Under the 112th Congress, the House has voted approximately 30 times to repeal or defund ObamaCare in full or in part.
